Gittinger Dominancia - Budapest Contemporary

Our goal was to propose an alternative to the often sterile and impersonal world of art fairs by bringing the winery’s nature-driven, wabi-sabi inspired atmosphere into the space.

Designed for the Budapest Contemporary 2025 art fair, Dominancia was a brief inquiry into whether we engage with nature as a collaborator or continue to treat it as something we master. Our primary task was to develop a spatial concept, layout, and material palette, but we were also involved in selecting the artworks.

The counter was designed as a modular system that can be reconfigured for future use — as a display, seating element, or bar.

The solid, charred wood blocks reference the force of nature and the passage of time, while stainless steel components introduce the industrial precision of winemaking.

Diverging from the notion of the white box, the installation’s walls were covered with a hand-applied, earth-toned plaster to create a more naturalistic space where materiality takes center stage.
