Loft in Budapest

This residential loft project explores how a generous double-height space can be activated beyond its visual impact. Rather than treating height as excess volume, the design organizes daily life vertically, creating distinct yet connected zones for a young family.

The ground floor is dedicated to communal living, with the kitchen positioned at the heart of the space as a social anchor for family life. Above, the children’s area occupies the upper level, offering both separation and visual connection.

Instead of inserting a conventional staircase that would fragment the plan, the transition between levels becomes an inhabitable zone: a combined stair, play, and work area that supports everyday activities. Within the raw, industrial character of the existing loft, warm wooden volumes are introduced as “living boxes,” bringing tactility, intimacy, and contrast to the space. The project is currently in progress, with the spatial framework setting the foundation for a layered, adaptable home.
